Built within the orchard of her former property, the house is conceived as a low, landscape-integrated form that contrasts with the previously inaccessible multi-level residence. A solid brick plinth anchors the main living spaces, while a lightweight timber-clad upper volume contains bedrooms and a guest annex. Inclusive design strategies—wide corridors, flush thresholds, lift access, adaptable bathrooms, and carefully positioned windows—ensure full accessibility without compromising architectural quality. The home also integrates sustainable technologies, including a ground source heat pump, 12kW photovoltaic array, heat recovery ventilation, and a highly insulated envelope. With a 14-meter physiotherapy pool, gym, and dedicated care suite, Claywood House demonstrates how thoughtful design can merge accessibility, sustainability, and refined contemporary architecture into a deeply personal family sanctuary.
