Sreenivasan, born on April 6, 1956, is a prominent Indian actor, screenwriter, director, dubbing artist, and producer, primarily known for his contributions to Malayalam cinema. He has appeared in more than 225 films throughout his career. Sreenivasan is credited with writing the screenplays for notable films such as Odaruthammava Aalariyam (1984), Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam (1986), Gandhinagar 2nd Street (1986), Nadodikkattu (1987), Pattanapravesham (1988), Varavelpu (1989), Thalayana Manthram (1990), Sandesam (1991), Midhunam (1993), Mazhayethum Munpe (1995), Azhakiya Ravanan (1996), Oru Maravathoor Kanavu (1998), Udayananu Tharam (2005), Katha Parayumpol (2007), and Njan Prakashan (2018), with the latter being one of the highest-grossing films in Malayalam history. He has received two Kerala State Film Awards for Best Screenplay for his work on Sandesam and Mazhayethum Munpe, along with various other honors, including a National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards South, and six Kerala State Film Awards. In his dual role as a writer and actor, Sreenivasan has often worked alongside directors such as Priyadarshan, Sathyan Anthikad, and Kamal. As a filmmaker, he both scripted and directed Vadakkunokkiyanthram (1989) and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala (1998). Vadakkunokkiyanthram received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film, while Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala was honored with the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues and the Best Popular Film Award at the 29th Kerala State Film Awards. Additionally, he co-produced Katha Parayumpol (2007) and Thattathin Marayathu (2012) through Lumiere Film Company, in partnership with actor Mukesh. Sreenivasan was born in Patyam, a village located near Thalassery in the Kannur district of North Malabar, Kerala. He has one sister and two brothers. His mother was a homemaker, while his father worked as a school teacher. Sreenivasan completed his education at Kuthuparamba Middle School and Government High School in Kadirur. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from PRNSS College in Mattanur. In 1977, he attended the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu in Chennai. Sreenivasan made his acting debut in the 1976 film Manimuzhakkam, directed by P. A. Backer. His first leading role came in the 1979 film Sanghaganam. While at film school, he was noticed by Aniyeri Prabhakaran, who later cast him in the movie Mela (1980). In 1984, he wrote his first screenplay for the film Odaruthammava Aalariyam. He also wrote and acted in several successful films, including Varavelpu, Gandhinagar 2nd Street, Nadodikkattu, and its sequels, Pattanapravesham and Akkare Akkare Akkare. As a director, he helmed Vadakkunokkiyanthram and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala. His notable comedies include Aram + Aram = Kinnaram, Kinnaripuzhayoram, Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu, Ponmuttayidunna Tharavu, Artham, Azhakiya Ravanan, and Chithram.Sreenivasan's elder son, Vineeth Sreenivasan, is a multifaceted talent in the Malayalam film industry, working as a singer, actor, producer, and director.
