Join me in my art studio as I show you what I'm working on today. I have a few projects going at the moment, a few mixed media fabric books that are similar to my fabric meditation books but I think these may be the beginning of a new series called Deconstruct : Reconstruct. I'm experimenting with taking apart fabric meditation books I've made in the past and combining the elements with other materials to create something new. The theme is showing up for my personally as well as I heal from some difficult mental health challenges. I'm also creating a large peace scroll that I share in this video that is in process at the moment. I am loving the chunky textures, simplicity and soothing comfort I feel when I touch the textiles I'm using for that one! Art is my sanctuary and such a mindful, therapeutic experience for me. I hope you find what I share inspiring for your own creative practice or healing journey. Art Materials I used today: -A deconstructed throw pillow made from a Peruvian frazada (blanket) I found on Etsy -Old hospital gauze I found at an antique mall that I infused with sandalwood essential oils (and it smells so good and grounding) -Bits of fabrics from a couple of fabric meditation books I have taken apart recently -Gathered stones from walks -Gorgeous mudcloth from Mali that I found on Etsy, I love the history/stories of this textile so much! -Acorn iron ink (we have a magnificent old oak tree in our yard that this ink connects me to, which feels lovely) -Various threads including some naturally dyed linen thread from http://www.maiwa.com and some hand dyed persimmon Japanese sashiko thread I got here on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/26835723... I'd love to hear if you use similar materials in your work! Or if you have questions about anything I share here, please feel free to leave a comment, it would be lovely to hear from you.
