HOW TO: Split Screen Music Video - Tutorial for iMovie (2020) INSTRUCTIONS: 1:25 ✅Assemble your equipment: 1. Video recorder: smartphone, DSLR camera, Zoom video recorder, etc. 2. Optional: Audio recorder: I used a Zoom H4N to record higher quality audio (not the same as Zoom Media online!). 3. Optional: USB to micro-USB cable to record directly to the computer. (Alternatively, you can simply remove the SD card and transfer the files manually onto your computer.) 4. Smartphone (or other device) to play back the lead track for the recording of the additional tracks. 5. Earphones 2:52 ✅Record your first track: If you intend to record a separate (high-quality) AUDIO track, set up your video AND audio recorders and record both simultaneously. Optional: Record the audio directly into your computer into Garage Band or Audacity. TIP: Be sure to CLAP a few seconds before you start playing so that you can easily line up the audio with the video later! Record as many takes until you are satisfied! 3:51 ✅Record the second track the same way while playing the video/audio file on your smartphone (or another device - I have once used my laptop) using your earphones. Again, record as many takes until you are satisfied. 4:42 ✅Transfer the files to your computer. 4:54 ✅Open iMovie. Create new project. Import media files into the media library. Drag audio and video files into the timeline (one on top of the other.) 6:18 Adjust audio levels. 6:32 How to rotate footage (if necessary). 6:52 How to crop the footage (if necessary). 9:37 How to do split screen format. 10:46 ✅Line up the footage. Be patient with this step! 12:46 ✅When satisfied, export video: For YouTube, export at 720p (60fps) or lower (High Quality is fine. No need for “Best (ProRes)". ✅You are done!
