As governments increasingly turn to automated decision-making systems, states must apply algorithmic transparency principles, standards, and rules in their use of algorithms. But is there a common definition of algorithmic transparency? Why is it fundamental in our time, in particular in contexts of use by public bodies? And are current existing instruments efficient in guaranteeing the level of transparency that is required? In 2024, the Data Governance and Responsible AI Expert Working Groups of the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) undertook comprehensive research around algorithmic transparency in the public sector, with the aim of assessing the existing transparency instruments that can be used by governments to comply and to produce specific recommendations to enable them to move towards higher transparency. During this webinar, project Co-leads discussed crucial matters relating to algorithmic transparency practices with the panelists from multiple countries. Panelists: Juan David Gutiérrez, School of Government, Universidad de los Andes and GPAI project Co-lead Alison Gillwald, Research ICT Africa and GPAI project Co-lead Maria Paz Hermosilla, Goblab UAI Robert Bos, Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations David Cabo, CIVIO Foundation Marielle Chrisment, Etalab
