Controlling an incandescent bulb manually is super simple and there are a few common ways to do it depending on your setup. Basic Manual Control Methods 1. Wall Switch (Most Common) How it works: A wall switch is wired in series with the bulb, controlling the flow of current. How to use: Flip the switch to turn the bulb on or off. Wiring basics: Live (Line) wire goes to the switch input. Switch output connects to the bulb’s live terminal. 1. Neutral goes directly to the bulb. 2. Pull Chain or Cord Switch (Often in Lamps) How it works: Pulling the chain toggles the internal switch inside the lamp. Where used: Ceiling fixtures or standalone lamps. 3. Rotary or Toggle Switch (On Fixture/Lamp Body) How it works: A knob or toggle built into the lamp interrupts power to the bulb. Used in: Table lamps, old-style fixtures. 4. Dimmer Switch (Manual Control with Brightness Adjustment How it works: Allows you to vary the voltage to the bulb, changing brightness. Note: Incandescent bulbs are fully compatible with standard dimmers. Install like a wall switch, but with added dimming circuitry.
