(Roman) Causeway Across the River Clyde Traces of a causeway, possibly built in Roman times, still remain across the River Clyde, Scotland, east of the West Ferry Roundabout (A8) on the south side of the river, going across to Dumbuck on the north side. The remains are visible at low tide and extreme caution is needed to view them. It would be very easy to get caught out by the tide. It is difficult to access the remains on a cycle, but is possible on foot. The deep channel at the navigation lights makes it impossible to cross the river at this point on foot and should not be attempted. It is an interesting piece of history for the area. It is possible that the causeway was used by the Romans as a link between their forts at Bishopton 140-150 AD (about 1km) and Old Kilpatrick 81 AD and The Antonine Wall 142 AD (about 4km). #romans #causeway #riverclyde #historicscotland #bishopton #oldkilpatrick #romanhistory #dumbuck
