Research Integrity and Ethics Series (session 2): Animal Care and Use

This session will include 3 short presentations by Prof Dirk U Bellstedt, Chair: Research Ethics Committee: Animal Care and Use (REC: ACU), Dr Este Spies, Director: Animal Research Facilities and Principal Veterinarian (Animal Facilities for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) and Faculty of Science (FoS), and Mr Winston A Beukes, Coordinator: REC: ACU. This session will provide an introduction and overview of the ethics of Animal Care and Use for scientific purposes and why it is important, outline various services offered by the Animal Facilities within the FMHS and FoS, and policies & procedures relevant to the ethics of Animal Care and Use for scientific purposes. Thereafter, the floor will be open for discussion. We encourage participants to use this opportunity to discuss and ask questions about the SU support structures in place for animal research ethics.
