Twenty years underground and still pushing the limits of precision, Peter Haddock goes down under for a lesson in tunnel surveying and rail projects from Cameron, co-founder of Surex Surveyors and a big fan of technology. Cameron: “We’ve worked on some of the most complex tunnelling projects Australia has seen, from the late 90’s with the CityLink in Melbourne to major schemes such as Cross River Rail and Sydney Metro. “And we are currently involved in some very complex rail and tunnelling projects where we are combining the very latest in surveying equipment and software from Leica Geosystems and Amberg Technologies. “From being involved in early Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) trials to using the first reflectless measurements on Pre-Olympic works in Sydney, we have always been an early adopter of the latest hardware and software. “And one thing we have always done is try to continually improve our workflows, working hand in hand with the teams at both Leica and Amberg. “More recently, we have also witnessed the power of AI detection built into the new Leica TS20 total station, with its accompanying software and new IP66 rating, which will be another step change for tunnelling. #tunnelling #surexsurveyors #railprojects #undergroundsurveying #infrastructure
