I am Der Geher and visit the district Sasel in the borough Wandsbek. From the offices of the German Weather Service I walk almost continuously to the north. First past a few stores along Ring 3 and through Saseler Park. Then through residential areas until reaching the Alster at the Mellingburg lock. The castle Mellingburg was already built between 700 and 800, the village was first mentioned in 1293. The name Sasel is derived from stone clearing. This in turn could go back to an erratic boulder associated with pre-Christian cultures, which was blown up in the 19th century. Today, the district is characterized by small building plots and is home to about 24,000 residents.
