Using a Well Packer to line our Off Grid Shallow Well is a new experience for us. We really don't know what we're doing, but hopefully it'll all go ok. A Well Packer is a PVC tube with rubber fins that press along the old casing sealing it off form the new PVC pipe. You can get them in several different sizes and the rubber in different levels of firmness. For this old case iron pipe, we went with a softer packer that should hopefully go in easier and not damage the old casing. After the 4" liner is in we'll slip a 1-1/4" pvc pipe down the length of the well. The plan is to hook this up to a Pitcher Pump later on. Before the pipe gets up that high, I installed a T fitting with a drain. This way I can drain the pump and line that is above grade so it doesn't freeze during winter. Last step for the day was filling around the liner and then raising up the ground level a good 6 inches with pea gravel. This should keep it clean down below the deck I plan to build over the hole.....eventually.....
