Of all the Judy’s collectibles I own, this is probably the most rare of them all. When I ran the unofficial fan site thejudys.com, I was fortunate to have many generous fans reach out to me and offer photos, video, and music that I’d otherwise never have been able to obtain. Unfortunately, I don’t know the names of those fans who so graciously made CD copies, scans, and video dubs of their material. And like so many others, I don’t know who to credit for sending me this incredible rarity. I don’t know the whole story behind this recording, but from what little memory I have of the details, these were 4-track demos recorded in the band’s practice space. They were never intended for public consumption from what I gather. Yet somehow, copies of their bootleg home demos made their way around Pearland, Houston, Austin, and later across the country to me. You can tell that this is a copy-of-a-copy-of-a-copy-of-a-copy of the recordings. The audio quality is not great, even though I did do quite a bit of sweetening to give the songs a brickwalled modern mastering treatment. They do sound better than the raw CD rip, but the quality is still poor due to the multi-generational nature of the original tapes from which these songs were digitized. There are a number of songs on this demo CD that I had never heard before. Some are clearly unfinished. Several are obviously experimental, with the final track on the CD particularly so. There aresome songs on here that just don’t SOUND like The Judy’s, and I found that fascinating. Although some of the song titles may seem obvious, and others lesser so, unless I knew the names of the songs from an official release, I noted them as “Title Unknown”. 0:00 Title Unknown ("Space Teen” ??? ) 2:58 Title Unknown ("Sunshiny Days” ??? ) 5:02 The Island 7:13 Teenage Millionaire 9:47 Trixie And The Killer 12:20 He’s The One For Her 13:52 Watch Her Go 15:56 Title Unknown ("Let’s Dance” ??? ) 17:35 Washarama 19:33 Title Unknown ("I’m Mad” ??? ) 21:49 Title Unknown ("This Must Be Love” ??? ) 23:36 Betty-O! 25:11 Title Unknown ("Skylab” ??? ) 26:28 Title Unknown ("Platonic Rhonda” ??? ) 28:34 My Imagination 30:51 Grass Is Greener 33:42 Magazine Man 35:47 Joey The Mechanical Boy 37:46 Title Unknown ("Go West” ??? ) 40:00 Don’t Be A Hippie 42:14 I Project 44:04 Title Unknown ("Girl With A Chip” ??? ) 46:13 Title Unknown ("My Evolution” ??? ) 48:25 Title Unknown ("Children In Search” ??? ) 51:19 Title Unknown ( ??? )
