This mildly sweet, aromatic dal is part of the famous Mahaprasad and is cooked without onion or garlic, following strict temple rituals. #JagannathTempleBhoga #Mahaprasad #OdiaRecipe #TempleFood #MithaDali #SatvikFood 1 cup Arhar Dal (Toor Dal) 3–4 tbsp Sugar or grated Jaggery 2 tbsp Ghee 1 Bay leaf 2–3 Cloves 1 small Cinnamon stick 2–3 Green cardamoms 1 tbsp Raisins 8–10 Cashew nuts ½ tsp Turmeric powder Salt (very little, as sweetness is dominant) 2½–3 cups Water Wash & Boil Dal: Wash arhar dal properly. Cook with turmeric and water until soft but not mushy. Lightly Mash: Gently mash the dal to get a smooth consistency. Add Sweetness: Add sugar or jaggery and mix well. Let it simmer on low flame. Temple-Style Tempering: Heat ghee in a small pan. Add bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon, and cardamom. When aromatic, add cashews and raisins. Fry lightly. Final Mixing: Pour the tempering into the dal. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until flavors blend. Offer & Serve: Traditionally offered warm as bhoga, then served as Mahaprasad.
