Here's the latest episode of Classic Bus Histories and in this episode we continue on the theme of the rivals to British Leyland. This is the story of the Foden NC. Devised by Northern Counties of Wigan and famous truck manufacturer Foden, this without a doubt was probably one of the least successful of the competitors to British Leyland in the 1970's with just 8 vehicles being built. Powered by a Gardner 6LXB engine which was at the time the bus man's favourite, it was originally conceived as a replacement for the Daimler Fleetline. However, use of an Allison transmission which was too fast for the Gardner engine meant that Foden had to use a torque converter to speed up the rpm of the drive to match the gearbox. Getting more complex isn't it? What could possibly go wrong? I hope you enjoy this episode of Classic Bus Histories. If you do please like and share this video and also please subscribe to the channel so you don't miss out on my future releases. There's plenty more to come including the Volvo Ailsa and the Dennis Arrow. Don't forget to check out the previous episodes in this series too where we look at classics such as the Leyland National, Leyland Atlantean, Daimler Fleetline and Bristol VR.
