Bio By She Rox All Female Bands: Candy Ass formed in late 1998 by its founder and lead vocalist Galadriel Masterson, with the intent of forming an all-female band, based out of New York and later relocating to Los Angeles, the band soon began playing the local punk and club circuit in and around New York and gained fans for their gritty punk rock that infused pop vocal harmonies. Along with guitarist Hopey Rock (Gina Moreno) and bass player Siani Pop, the band at this point being co-ed with a with a male drummer, would release the ep Orgy in 2000, along with the three song single Love Sucks. Candy Ass were creating quite a buzz following the release of Orgy, the ep was praised for its catchy, punk-pop mixed with tons of bad girl attitude. The band would also gain a famous fan and found themselves being invited to join Pink as her opening act on a 38-city tour in 2000. Candy Ass by this point had already recruited drummer Mary Katherine (Mary Katherine Hogan) and secured an all-female line-up. Bass player Siani Pop would leave the band before they released the single Dynomite in 2002, her replacement was short lived before bassist Karen Curious (Karen McGinnis) would join and this line-up would release the full-length live album, Liplockin' Live!. Line-up changes seemed to plaque the band during their run but most notably included Alice Genese from the all-female band Sexpod among the ranks, however short-lived members seem to be constant leaving vocalist Galadriel and guitarist Hopey Rock as the only original band members. After 2003, the band seemed to all but disappear, and fans were left to wonder, how the band that crashed the scene so loudly, seem to go out so quietly. Founder and vocalist Galadriel Masterson has stated that she had developed nodules on her vocal cords, however if this was the reason or one of other reasons the band met its demise is still not confirmed as certainty. Candy Ass remains even after 25 years a band that should have been according to diehard fans, and truly an undiscovered gem for new fans lucky enough to come across their music current day.
