Roy Acuff and his Smoky Mountain Boys "That Beautiful Picture" (trad) Prince Albert Grand Ole Opry War Memorial Auditorium Nashville, Tennessee Saturday 4 January 1941 (see note) Roy Acuff - fiddle, lead vocal Lonnie 'Pap' Wilson - guitar Odie Rhodes - bass Oswald Kirby - dobro, vocal Jess Easterday - mandolin George D. Hay - announcer Photo of Roy Acuff in 1945 found on the 'Knox News' website, Knoxville News Sentinel Photo Archive. Several sources give Roy Acuff writing credit for this song. When the song was first recorded and released by Acuff in the late thirties, there was no writing credit listed on the 78rpm label, while the song on the flip did have a writing credit listed. According to hymnary.org, the song was first published in a Tennessee hymnal in 1942 with no author credited. Most of the other hymns in the collection did include the author or authors names. Note on the date: The source tape for this upload is dated January 1941. Other uploads of this same material found here have a date of December 28th, 1940 attached. It's clear from the announcers' patter that the show took place after Christmas, and there are multiple references to the 'year ahead'. George D. Hay begins by wishing everyone a Happy New Year, which could have occurred on either date. I've gone with '41 simply because that's what the source at hand says.
