"I'm So Glad": Kansas City's Untold Legacy of Black Gospel Music

From the turn of the 20th Century through the 1960s and 1970s Black gospel blues gave voice to a people living in troubled times. Infectious rhythms and harmonies infused a soulful element into secular and sacred music that lives on today. Kansas and The Greater Kansas City Area, including the historic 18th & Vine neighborhood, played a prominent, if often overlooked, role as a crossroads on the legendary Gospel Highway. "I'm So Glad, Kansas City And The Roots of Black Gospel Music, the Untold Story" premiered iFebruary 2023. It is available for showings by contacting ImSoGladProject.com. Support was provided by Humanities Kansas, Arts KC, Charlotte Street Foundation and the University of Kansas Spencer Museum of Art.
