A unique campaign called Hope Tape was launched in 2020 in South Korea to help find children who have been missing for many years. The campaign was created by the Korean National Police Agency along with advertising company Cheil Worldwide. Delivery companies such as Korea Post and Hanjin Transportation also joined the project to spread awareness across the country. Every year, hundreds of children go missing in South Korea. While many are found quickly, some remain missing for years. When the campaign started, around 661 children had been missing for more than one year, and 638 children had been missing for more than five years. Over time, the public often forgets these cases. News coverage fades and people stop recognising the children’s faces. However, for their families, the search continues and the hope of finding their child never ends. To keep these children in the public’s memory, the police and advertisers came up with a creative idea called Hope Tape. Instead of using posters or flyers, they printed the information of missing children on packaging tape used to seal delivery boxes. At first glance, the tape looks like normal packaging tape. But printed on it are the faces and details of missing children. Each piece of tape includes the child’s photo from the time they disappeared, an age-progressed image showing how they might look today, the child’s name, last known location, and other identifying details such as height or facial features. The tape also includes a QR code. When people scan the code, it connects to a police mobile app where they can report tips or sightings. Through the app, families can also register fingerprints and other details of their children to help with identification. The campaign was launched on 25 May 2020, which is recognised as International Missing Children’s Day. It was also during the COVID-19 pandemic, when online shopping had increased sharply. Because of this, delivery boxes carrying Hope Tape reached thousands of homes across the country. Every time a parcel was sealed with the tape, the information about a missing child travelled with the package from warehouses to delivery trucks and finally to people’s homes. When customers opened their packages, they saw the face and story of a missing child printed on the tape. The campaign received wide attention and several awards in the advertising and public service industry. Many people praised the idea for turning something as ordinary as packaging tape into a powerful tool to help find missing children and bring hope to their families. #SouthKorea #Missing #MissingCase #HopeTape #WorldNews #BreakingNews #IndiaSigningHands #ISH #ISHNews #ISL #IndianSignLanguage #SignLanguage ISH News broadcasts the Daily News and Entertainment online in Deaf-friendly accessible formats which are in Indian Sign Language (ISL), visual images with titles, voice-over and closed-captions.
