Beehive Loop Hike (Acadia National Park)

July 13, 2023 -- Adventurous hike, steep granite staircases, iron rungs, exposed cliff faces, drop offs with no railings and spectacular views. These are just some of the words used to describe one of Acadia's famous rung and ladder trails, the Beehive Loop. It is one of the parks most trafficked trails, where people challenge their bodies and minds as they ascend a 450-ft cliff with exposed edges. At the top you're rewarded with stunning views over Sand Beach, Thunder Hole and the Gulf of Maine stretching to the horizon. It sounded wonderful to me, yet it took a little convincing to get my daughter, Sydney, to make the hike as she isn't a fan of heights. I knew she'd slay the trail and she absolutely did, so we celebrated afterwards with some ice cream in the town of Bar Harbor. Note: The Precipice trail, which is even more challenging than the Beehive trail, was closed to protect nesting peregrine falcons.
