Lordosis and kyphosis relate to the proper curvature of the spine. Lordosis refers to the forward bending C-curve in the spine. This is normal in the cervical region, the neck, and the lumbar region, the lower back. Kyphosis refers to the backward facing C-curve in the thoracic region of the spine, the upper back. The loss of the cervical lordosis specifically refers to the straightening or change of the curve in the cervical region. This can have negative effects on the function of the muscles and tissues surrounding the spine, the spinal cord, the disks, the vertebrae, and the nerves. There are many causes of loss of cervical lordosis, such as injuries and repetitive traumas, like consistently poor posture. The loss of cervical lordosis can be directly linked to scoliosis in the spine as well. Scoliosis can flatten thoracic kyphosis which directly impacts cervical lordosis. Instead of solely treating the loss of cervical lordosis, the Scoliosis Reduction Center addresses the entire spine, from the skull to the pelvis, to achieve all the proper alignments at once. The sooner cervical lordosis is restored, the less effect it will have on the patient long term.
