2008 Gilroy Garlic Festival featuring Gene Burns and Flame Alley

Hi, there, YouTube friends. It's your old buddy kenbank again. This time I'm bringing you some video from the 2008 Gilroy Garlic Festival. This year I had the good fortune to encounter KGO Radio AM810 talk show personality and renowned Bay Area Bon Vivant, Gene Burns, broadcasting his weekly live food and wine show, "Dining Around with Gene Burns", on location at the Festival. I was lucky enough to be able to video the last segment of his show which features an interview with the winner of the 2008 Great Garlic Cook Off which is a contest to find the most interesting and appealing recipe using garlic as a main ingredient. The winner is Laurie Benda, an educator from Madison, Wisconsin. Please see the link below to find a copy of her winning recipe. Also, I've included a few minutes of "Flame Alley" where the gourmet garlic chefs of the Festival cook up an abundance of garlicky comestibles for the enjoyment of the festival goers. The cooking process is quite dramatic as flames leap high into the air when ingredients are poured into searing hot pans. The pleasingly pungent aroma of garlic permeates the whole area. If you have never been to the Gilroy Garlic Festival I encourage you to do so next year. It is held, by tradition, on the last full weekend of July.
