In this sermon, Pastor Scott unpacks Paul’s powerful warning: “Do not receive the grace of God in vain.” What does that mean? And how do we know if we’ve truly received God’s grace? Pastor Scott reminds us that receiving God’s grace isn’t about having the right feelings or spiritual “highs.” It’s about hearing and trusting God’s Word. When the Gospel is proclaimed—when Christ crucified and risen for you is preached—grace is being given. God’s Word does what it says. Drawing from the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness, Pastor Scott shows how the devil works by placing “ifs” and question marks over God’s promises: “If you are really God’s child…” “If God loves you, why did this happen?” He explains that testing God is actually unbelief dressed up as faith—and that trusting in our own faith instead of God’s Word leads us away from true confidence in Christ. To “receive God’s grace in vain” ultimately means to abandon it—to let doubt, compromise, or temptation pull us away from the very Word that gives life. The good news? Jesus faced these temptations for us. His victory is counted as ours. His faithfulness covers our failures. Today is the day of salvation.
