Travel back in time with this authentic 1949 Kentucky Pumpkin Pie recipe! We’re recreating this delicious, old-fashioned dessert with simple, time-tested methods. Get ready for a taste of holiday nostalgia! In this video, I will show you how to make a Kentucky pumpkin pie from the book: Out of Kentucky Kitchens from 1949. I share my personal tips on how to make a great pie crust & bake the pie. Kentucky Pumpkin Pie Recipe: Adapted from: Out of Kentucky Kitchens Pie Filling: 1 1/2 cups pumpkin puree 2 tablespoons melted butter 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ginger 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 2 eggs 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 teaspoon allspice 1/4 teaspoon cloves 1/4 teaspoon mace 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 2 tablespoons brandy or whisky ( I used cinnamon whisky) 2 tablespoons flour 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1 cup half & half Pie Crust: 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt 4-8 tablespoons ice water 8 tablespoons shortening 1. First, make the pie crust. 2. Sift flour and salt. Add shortening and blend with your fingers until it is thoroughly mixed. 3. Add enough ice water for the dough to come together. Form into a ball. 4. Roll out dough on a floured mat until 1/4 inch thick. Flip over into a 9-inch pie pan. 5. Use your hands to form the crust into the pan and leave an overhang on the edges. Trim the edges, then pinch with your knuckle on one hand and index finger and thumb on the other hand to flute the edge. 6. Once done, freeze the crust in the freezer for 1-2 hours on a metal oven tray. Filling: 1. Mix together in a large bowl: pumpkin puree, melted butter, all of the spices, lemon juice, and whisky. 2. Beat the eggs until light in a separate medium bowl. 3. To the eggs, add the flour and blend well. Add in the sugars, salt, and milk. 4. Combine the two mixtures. 5. Pour the pie filling into the frozen pie crust. 6. Place a pie pan on the lowest rack filled with hot water- this will help the filling bake evenly. 7. Bake for 15 minutes at 450, then reduce the oven temperature to 375 and bake about 30 minutes more until done in the center. Thank you for liking this video, subscribing, and leaving a comment.
