How to change you 1st generation Toyota Tacoma rear differential gear oil. This general process applies to 4Runner, T100, and Tundras with slight variations in steps! Tool List: socket wrench and/or breaker bar (liquid wrench or PB blaster may be needed) 24mm socket SAE 75W-90 gear oil GL5 [owners manual calls for SAE 90 (operating temps above 0 degree Fahrenheit) and SAE 80W-90 (operating temps below 0 degree Fahrenheit)] I choose to use 75W-90 for ease of access and no noticeable performance change in my particular use of my truck. rear differential capacity varies between 2.45 qt and 2.95 qt depending on model trim. I advise buying at least 3 quarts, possibly 4. Fill transfer case until oil begins to dribble out of FILL hole. No need to gauge exact capacity, that is the purpose of the fill hole elevation to allow for correct fill without overfill small wire brush oil catch pan torque wrench (optional in my opinion, decide at your own risk) fill and drain plugs both 27 ft-lbs torque specification (2) crush washers, Toyota part #12157-10010 *If the video was helpful, remember to give it a "thumbs up" and consider subscribing.* Disclaimer: Due to factors beyond the control of Engineered Mojo, I cannot guarantee against improper use or unauthorized modifications of this information.
