We are back inside the Bo'ness engineering building at my local heritage railway the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway, with the steam guys mostly working on the "disabled railway coach 4529" trying to help with costs and getting her back into service again. Some History :- Disabled railway coach 4529 (a Mark 1 TSO(D)) at the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway underwent major, long-term overhaul work following over a year out of service. Work included bogie overhauls, asbestos removal, new steam heat pipes, vacuum brake system, and exterior repainting to return it to active, accessible service. Key details regarding the work on this vehicle: Purpose: The coach is a Tourist Second Open (Disabled) or TSO(D), designed to provide essential access for passengers with reduced mobility. Extensive Overhaul: Work, which was highlighted around December 2022, included major overhauls of both bogies, vacuum braking system upgrades, and installation of new battery boxes. Restoration Scope: The project included asbestos removal and a full external repaint to bring the carriage up to operational standards. Operation: Following these repairs, the coach was brought back into service, notably being attached to the front of the Santa trains. This work is part of the ongoing efforts by the Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS) volunteers to maintain their fleet of heritage carriages for use on the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway.
