The Kenya pipeline company has advertised for bids for the construction of the Kisumu oil jetty in a bid to boost petroleum transportation in the country. The international tender is set to close on the 9th of February 2017 with investors keenly looking to clinch the multi-million shilling venture. Kenya pipeline has been on a charm offensive to increase volumes of petroleum products destined for regional markets such as Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. The construction of the jetty comes on the back of the completion of the 5.7 billion shilling, 122-kilometre 10-inch diameter pipeline from Sinendet to Kisumu. Presently, Kisumu depot, handles 350,000 litres per hour from 110,000 and indication of the growing demand for the export market. Kenya pipeline is currently constructing the Mombasa-Nairobi pipeline replacement project (line 5) which is scheduled to be completed this year. The firm is also establishing a new state of the art loading facilities in Eldoret and new tanks in Nairobi terminal which will ensure provision of sufficient capacity for receipt of higher volumes of products expected once the Mombasa – Nairobi pipeline is replaced.
