Jack Parsons helped ignite the American space program long before NASA existed. In the dry canyons of Arroyo Seco outside Pasadena, he and a small group of dreamers built the rockets that would eventually become the foundation of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. But Parsons was never a typical scientist. By day he was developing solid fuel rocket engines for the military and helping pioneer the technology that would send humanity into space. By night he was immersed in the world of mysticism and ritual, a devoted follower of Aleister Crowley and a leader in the Ordo Templi Orientis. To some he was a visionary. To others he was dangerously eccentric. His life burned fast and bright. In 1952, at just 37 years old, Parsons was killed in a mysterious explosion in his home laboratory. Whether accident or something stranger has never been fully settled. Today, every rocket that climbs toward orbit carries a small piece of the work he began. This song tells the story of the rebel scientist who helped open the road to space. Rocket Man Jack. From Arroyo Seco to the edge of the cosmos.
