Kayla Lookinghorse-Smith, founder of the brand K. Lookinghorse, is a Lakota and Dakota designer from Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North and South Dakota. The Lakota and Dakota are two of the three subdivisions of the Oceti Šakowiŋ, along with the Nakota. While they are culturally connected, they are distinguishably different. Fusing her Lakota and Dakota culture throughout all that she does, Kayla teaches viewers how to tell the difference between Lakota and Dakota designs. She talks about the significance of Indigenous storytelling through fashion and reveals the hidden meanings that are woven, beaded, and sewn into her debut luxury collection. Kayla has dressed some of the biggest stars like Lily Gladstone, Kali Reis, Cara Jade Myers, and Quannah Chasinghorse.
