FIRST IMPRESSIONS of SANTIAGO CHILE | PLAZA de ARMAS & MERCADO CENTRAL Our first few days in Chile were spent in the capital city of Santiago and we did a lot of walking! The city is big and there are a lot of places to see (best viewpoints coming in the next video) in this video we start off in the main square, Plaza de Armas, which was beautiful but very busy and after a visit to the tourist information centre we were being extra cautious filming in the square as they warned us of individuals that simply snatch things straight out of your hands, we also did see a few shady looking characters that put us on edge so we enjoyed our time briefly and decided to do more filming in other parts of the city. We made our way over to Plaza De La Constitution, which is a lovely quiet square that is surrounded by government buildings including La Moneda Palace. It was much quieter and felt safer as the area has armed guards everywhere, much easier to get the camera out and also do a little reading about the history from the boards in the square while admiring the architecture. In this video we also braved the famous Mercado Central which is a top tourist sight and can be a great place to eat local food especially if you love seafood, which we don’t (one of us is vegetarian) but we didn’t want to miss out on all the fuss so we decided to go earlier one morning before it got too busy. The building is pretty cool and the people were friendly, but yes it smells of fish :) We finish this video over at Bicentennial Park which was created to celebrate Chiles bicentennial. It was a welcome place to find in the middle of this sprawling megapolis as it runs along a river and has a dog park and play/workout areas and is just a great place to escape the hectic city whilst looking back at it’s huge skyline in the distance.
