A crown made of 45 kilograms of pure gold and diamonds worth ₹45 crores — a gift offered by mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy to Lord Venkateswara. But even after more than 13 years, why has this priceless crown never adorned the head of the Lord? Did Tirumala’s deity himself silently reject this extraordinary offering? Devotees firmly believe that even a single rupee dropped into the Hundi with pure devotion is gladly accepted by Lord Venkateswara. Money earned through honest offered with faith is believed to go directly to the Lord, who in turn repays his divine debt to Kubera. In Hindu tradition, the purity of the offering matters more than its monetary value. But what happens when crores of rupees earned through illegal means are offered at the feet of God? On June 11, 2009, Gali Janardhan Reddy presented a magnificent crown embedded with diamonds and precious stones, made from 45 kg of gold. However, doubts soon arose among devotees as Reddy was accused in the Obulapuram mining scam and the demolition of the Sunkulamma temple. According to Hindu scriptures, only wealth earned through righteous means should be offered to God. Interestingly, despite being officially donated, this crown has never once been used to adorn the idol of Lord Venkateswara. Even the chief priests and temple authorities never attempted to place it on the deity. Devotees believe this silence itself reflects the will of Lord Srinivasa. During the CBI investigation into the mining scam, officials examined the crown as well. But since it had already been donated to the temple, it could not be seized legally. Today, this ₹45 crore crown remains locked away in the Tirumala temple treasury, the “Parakamani,” unseen and unused. This mysterious episode stands as a powerful reminder that no matter how wealthy a person is, God accepts only offerings that are pure in intention and righteous in origin.
