This video is a continuation of my 2024 ultimate summer adventure vanlife road trip, and in this episode, I'm canoeing and camping on BC's historic Yellowhead Lake. Yellowhead Lake is located in British Columbia's Mount Robson Provincial Park, and at the Lucerne campground. This campground is about 20 - 25 minutes from the BC/Alberta border and Jasper. It's named Lucerne because the Canadian Northern Railway once had a train station here, the Lucerne Station. This campsite can be loud because it's by the railroad and the highway, but this place exists because of that railway. In this video, I talk a little bit about the history of the area, which is based around the railroad and also the Yellowhead highway. The Yellowhead highway is a critical roadway that connects BC and Alberta through the rocky mountains. The term Yellowhead used to be used on the original trade route that was here back in the fur trading days. Back in the days of the northwest company and the Hudson's bay company, this route through the rockies was an absolutely critical trade route through the rockies. It was also part of the overland route that gold miners would of traveled through the gold rush. It was also alost certainly used by first nations people for many generations before that. The name Yellowhead comes from the nickname of Pierre Bostonais, an iriquois-metis fur trader that traversed this area, and was well known because of his blonde or yellow hair. When you are in this spot, and think about it, you can't help but feel the history of this spot. It's also incredibly beautiful too! After the paddle, I went back to my campsite and did a bush fix on the canoe seat I broke while paddling, then made myself dinner. I made creamy tomato tortellini, with broccoli and Italian sausage. It was absolutely delicious, and a meal well deserved after a long day of paddling. After dinner the rain came, and I just went to bed in the van. In the morning I checked out the facilities of the campsite, the packed up for my next adventure. On the way out, I stopped for water, which was an ordeal in it's own right. All things considered, it was a great paddle, camp, and day in the life of me living the vanlife. In the next episode, I'll be canoeing the other lake in Mount Robson, Moose Lake. The only lake on the Fraser River.
