The "Sunday Scramble" meets held at Bicester Heritage (a one-time RAF airfield) several times per year have become "must visit" vintage, classic & sports car meetings for many people, and advance ticket sales (only) are usually snapped up quickly. The January 2023 Sunday Scramble was the first we'd been to, and it proved to be a great way to spend a few hours. Not only were there many many wonderful vehicles to ogle over, the setting itself - a preserved ex-RAF airfield that, amazingly, has survived with many of its original buildings still intact - is well worth a visit in its own right. We have a family link to RAF Bicester as one of my grandfathers was based here, flying in Bristol Blenheims early in WW2, so another excellent reason for us to make a pilgrimage to sunny (ahemm) Oxfordshire. In fact, bar a few showers, the weather - rarely predictable at this time of year - held up reasonably well for the duration of January 2023's Sunday Scramble, for which we are very grateful. One of the highlights for us was a gathering of classic wagons, ie estate cars, and there were some real gems in evidence - a stunning Ford V8 woody, an immaculate Skoda estate, Triumph 2000 & Vitesse, plus coachbuilt Rolls-Royce and Bentley woodies and many more, were a treat to behold. All around the Bicester Heritage site, laid out in a pleasantly informal manner amongst the preserved buildings, trees, and air raid shelters, were all manner of desirable cars - some vintage, others post-war classics, rubbing door handles with later supercars and sportscars - a real mixture. Vintage and classic vehicle specialists occupy many of the old brick buildings at Bicester, and most had their doors open to share their stories, and in the cases of car dealers, enable potential buyers to peruse their latest stock. As the Old Classic Car channel is primarily focused on cars of the 1920s - 1970s, this is the era I concentrated on in the main with this video, although later cars do appear regularly. My youthful assistant hopes to have his video ready for his own channel - CarTraction - very soon. All in all, a very civilised day out. Apologies for the length of this video, but I wanted to include as much of the footage as I could. I'm sure I didn't get to all of the cars on site, but this upload will give a flavour for what the Bicester Sunday Scrambles are about I hope. As in previous years, I hope to get to many events and museums this year, so please keep an eye on the channel for future classic car videos, and if you're new here, please take a look at what's already on here.
