Garden of Eden Waterfall in Winter, Five Islands, Nova Scotia

Have you ever seen a waterfall in the winter time? So beautiful! Join me as I do a quick exploration of the Garden of Eden waterfall (aka Harrington Falls) in Five Islands. My waterfall rating: ***** Distance from Halifax, Nova Scotia: approx. 170 km Total travel time: 4 hours, 2 hours from Halifax. Total hiking time: we spent 4 hours just exploring and filming however you may be able to do this in about an hour. Fitness level: Difficult – there is some bushwacking, the trail is not clear and there is a lot of ropes to climb. The Garden of Eden waterfall (aka Harrington Falls) which is located in Five Islands is approx. a 2 hour drive from Halifax. The Garden of Eden falls is located next to many other falls including North River Falls. All of these falls can be found on the waterfall map created by Benoit Lalonde which can be found here https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/vie.... You can get directions to these Waterfalls by entering Garden of Eden Waterfall in Google maps. All directions can be found in the description of this video below. When driving from Halifax take the NS-102 towards Truro, Use the left lane to take exit 15W to Trans-Canada Highway/NS-104 W toward Amherst. Then take exit 10. Turn left onto Station Rd. at the end of this road turn right onto Nova Scotia Trunk 2 N. Drive for approx. 41 km and turn right onto Lynn Road. You will drive appox 4 km until you reach these GPS Coordinates 45° 27.197'N, 64° 6.740'W you will see an old logging road on your left with some flagging tape. Park here. The hike to the Garden of Eden waterfall is quite overgrown making it a little difficult to find. When walking along the logging road stay to the left when you start to approach the bushes and trees. There was some flagging tape to follow and we added more to attempt to make the small trail easier to see. The trail is windy and very narrow but absolutely beautiful in the winter when the trees are covered with snow. You will hike this trail for approximately 30 minutes to get to the base of the waterfall. Be careful when descending to the base of the falls as it is quite steep. There are ropes to assist you but test them first to ensure they are safe and not weather worn. As you start to navigate the ropes you will see another set of falls to your right which makes for a pretty picture. Keep going until you get to the bottom of the ravine where you will see the Garden of Eden falls. These falls spill over a 60 foot vertical cliff into a pool, and then joins the main Harrington River. This waterfall is beautiful, and I have seen photos where people have been able to stand behind the actual falls. Because we were here in the winter the water was high, and we were unable to cross to make our way to the falls or up the ravine to the additional falls above. I definitely plan to return in the summer and explore these falls further and create a more detailed video for my viewers!
