The Relaxed Wife (1957)

This short film promotes Atarax, a tranquilizer. A husband and father is experiencing stress from work and home life. His wife suggests that he learn to relax, as she has done, and offers him the book "How to Relax." She also talks him through relaxation techniques. The scene then switches from the couple's bedroom to a table with various pieces of chemistry equipment. Two tense forearms and hands are reaching up from beneath the table. The film narrator, speaking mostly in rhyming couplets, notes that if relaxation techniques do not help, there is now an Ataraxic medication, named for the Greek work Ataraxia that means peace of mind, to help with stress and anxiety. The tense arms and hands begin to relax. At the end of the film, the man is shown at his desk, relaxed and able to handle the various stresses that arise.
