New neuroscience research suggests that people with anxiety disorders have lower levels of choline in the brain compared to those without anxiety. In this video I explain what choline is, how it supports acetylcholine and the nervous system, and what this study does—and does not—mean for anxiety. Anxiety isn’t just a mindset problem. It’s a whole-body nervous system state, and the brain is a physical organ that depends on nutrients to function well. We’ll look at the study published in Molecular Psychiatry, how researchers measured brain chemistry using ¹H-MRS imaging, and why lower choline may make it harder for the nervous system to shift out of fight-or-flight. This video is not about magical supplements or quick fixes. The research is early, correlational, and choline is not a cure for anxiety. We’ll also talk about what we do know helps anxiety long-term: sleep, movement, nutrition, therapy skills, and nervous system regulation.
