The Restoration team recently go the Mark Donohue/Paul Hawkins Le Mans car into running order. As a response to a soured deal with Ferrari, Ford created the GT in hopes of beating them on a world stage. Simultaneously their power-plants were establishing dominance in the most prestigious motorsport arenas including the Indy 500. In 1964, Ford originally put the 255 cubic inch "Indianapolis" V8 engine in the GT40. However by 1966 the main power plant had become a new lightweight version of their 427 V8, setting new lap records at Le Mans. After two years of battling to beat Ferrari at Le Mans, this car was a part of the fleet that conquered the rival team. While this particular car did not experience victory, it was driven by 1972 Indy 500 champion Mark Donohue. Ford went on to dominated 4 consecutive years in the 24 hour endurance race winning 1966-1969!
