This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord. On a high mountain, Jesus allows Peter, James, and John to see what had been veiled—His divine glory shining through His humanity. In this Midweek Meditation, Pastor Matt Doebler of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (Norfolk, VA) reflects on what the Transfiguration reveals about Christ’s incarnation, His state of humiliation and exaltation, and why this brief unveiling of glory matters for us. Jesus never stopped being fully God. During His earthly ministry, He veiled His glory so that He could suffer, die, and redeem us. But on the mountain, the disciples glimpse the Lord of Glory—the same Lord who now reigns in exaltation and who will return in visible splendor. And yet, the word “transfiguration” (metamorphosis) also speaks to us. Through baptism, faith, and participation in Christ’s sufferings, God renews and transforms us into what we truly are—sons and daughters of light. 👉 Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more Midweek Meditations.
