The Old Newbie Branch Railway near Annan, Dumfries & Galloway

The half mile long Newbie Branch once served Cochran & Co Boiler Works and the Newbie Brick and Tile Works. The line had a passing loop at both ends and for a short time (1894-1904) a worker's halt was located at the junction that was controlled until 1934 by Newbie Junction signal box. It was used up until circa the 1970s and track remains from the Old Mill Burn Bridge to the level crossing close to the factory. In 1983 the Doon Valley Railway (was the ARPG) volunteers lifted the rest of the track for use at Dunaskin. The works diesel locomotive, Blinkin Bess, is now preserved at Dunaskin.
