Asiedu Nketia Proposes Elevation of 12 Municipalities, 20 Districts

Presenting the report of the Committee for the Elevation of Districts and Municipalities at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, he disclosed that one district has also been proposed for direct elevation to a metropolis due to compelling demographic and economic factors. The report further proposes: A standard manual to guide future elevations A three-year development plan with seed funding for newly upgraded areas The introduction of municipal bonds to enable MMDAs raise capital A proposed Local Government Finance Bill to strengthen resource mobilisation Asiedu Nketia cautioned that such upgrades must not remain “on paper,” stressing that infrastructure and service delivery must reflect the new status of affected assemblies.
