He landed in New Orleans then made his way upriver to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1848 where he learned to be a brew master at one of the many Cincinnati breweries. In 1854 he moved to Warren County Ohio where he settled near present-day Morrow. There he built his own small brewery at the bottom of a hillside were a lead-pipe channeled seven streams of ice-cold water into the lower level of the building to keep the Porter Ale cold. It has been said that the temperature in the lower level was never any higher than 38 degrees! At some point a Mr. Raucher took over the business and in 1902 when the county went dry, and breweries ceased producing beer. At that point in time soft drinks were produced here and delivered to the neighboring towns of Wilmington, Blanchester and Lebanon in addition to fairs in the area. In 1895 Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps list that the property also included a cooperage and an ice house. Eventually the brewery closed and other businesses moved in including people who grew mushrooms. The double pin log cabin found nearby is extremely rare in Ohio. This style of log house was more common in Kentucky but north of the Ohio River few examples such as this exist. It is believed that this log cabin was built around 1803. GPS Location: 39°20'45.5"N 84°07'48.8"W
