Motivating your team sounds simple, but in fact it is not easy, and many leaders get it wrong. They assume there is one right way. When in reality, motivation of a group of people, albeit a team or department, is a system. After all, if you only know one approach, you tend to overuse it, and when it stops working, you blame the team. Different people are driven by different things, such as Achievement, Recognition, Security, Autonomy, and Growth. And the same person will be motivated by different things at different times.
