A Storm Ripped This Beach Apart — What It Revealed Had Been Hidden for 2,000 Years A violent storm tore the sand away at Bosta Beach and exposed the remains of an Iron Age village buried beneath the dunes for centuries. 0:00 To The Beach 7:14 Hidden In The Dunes 10:15 Reconstruction 14:12 Unfriendly Locals 16:48 Pigs 18:14 Next Time In this episode, we head to Bosta Beach on Great Bernera in the Outer Hebrides — a place where history quite literally emerged from the sand. Bosta is also home to one of the UK’s Time and Tide Bells. These sculptural bells ring with the movement of the sea at high tide, acting as a reminder of the power of the ocean and rising sea levels. There are currently 11 installed Time and Tide Bells around the UK coastline, with more planned. We also tell the remarkable story of how a severe storm uncovered the remains of an Iron Age settlement that had been hidden beneath the dunes for over two millennia, and we take a look at the outside of the reconstructed Iron Age house built close to the original site. Leaving Bosta, we stop to look at a couple of honesty boxes — guarded by some unfriendly locals — and meet a very chatty pig before leaving Great Bernera behind. The episode ends as we leave the island, with a question that will be answered in the next video.
