Join me in exploring London Doctor Who Filming Locations used in The Dalek Invasion of Earth, Rose, Terror of the Zygons and more! I'm making my way onto Westminster Bridge so that I can then turn around and look back and recreate shots that had Westminster Palace, Big Ben, and Westminster Bridge as seen in many instances of Doctor Who to name a few! You can spot Big Ben in the background as the Doctor and Rose are running over Westminster Bridge in Series 1 Episode 1: Rose! That shot really showcases the entirety of Westminster Bridge really nicely and you also see Westminster Palace in the background as well! Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster can also be seen in a shot from Series 2: The Christmas Invasion and (40 years earlier) in a similar shot was used in Season 13: Terror of the Zygons Part 4, but the most iconic monster to invade London has to be the Daleks! 60 years ago in 1964, they would have filmed this incredible shot of Daleks invading London! You see Big Ben in the background as a Dalek glides into view! We see London through a Dalek’s eyestalk as it hunts for the Doctor's companion, Barbara! We see Barbara, Jenny, and Dortmund, as they flee across Westminster Bridge here trying to escape the Daleks! We also see an iconic shot of Daleks crossing Westminster Bridge. And even though that is an epic shot and it's amazing how much they filmed the Daleks in London for this story, the shot that I remembered and the one that I'm trying to recreate here is actually a publicity photo taken of the Daleks on Westminster Bridge rather than a shot used in the episode. The filming of this whole scene of the Daleks on Westminster Bridge was referenced in An Adventure in Space and Time as well. It's really cool to see them recreate this shot and then be here trying to recreate a shot of them recreating the shot. In this scene, they're showing director Richard Martin getting angry at a Dalek for getting off course. The director is played by Ian Hallard, who is the husband of Mark Gatiss, who wrote An Adventure in Space and Time and nine episodes of Doctor Who and appeared as Lazarus in The Lazarus Experiment and as the Captain in Twice Upon a Time. So I set off with Big Ben behind me down Westminster Bridge. And to my left, I see the London Eye. I'm getting closer to it with each step that I take, and there are birds flying, and it's a lovely day out. It's a little cold, but the sky is blue, and there are clouds up above, and it looks beautiful! There's seagulls wheeling around, and I'm at the other end of Westminster Bridge now. There are food vendors. There are people cycling past. There's this statue of a lion, and the whole walk, I'm turning around and seeing if I'm far enough along to recreate the shot. I need to go farther, though. I'm definitely getting closer and closer with each step, but I think I was on the far side of Westminster Bridge, so I had to cross to get the shot set up exactly right. And look at that! I could not believe my eyes when I got to the right spot to recreate the shot! To think that I was standing in the same place that Doctor Who had filmed with Daleks 60 years ago. It was beyond exciting! This is the very spot where the Daleks invade London! And, of course, this is where they recreated that moment in An Adventure in Space and Time. This is so incredible to be here, where the Daleks trundled across Westminster Bridge 60 years ago! This is so incredible! It was so amazing to be able to recreate the shot. I just needed some Daleks! I was so excited to have been able to take a photo that replicates the shot that they got all those years ago of Big Ben and Westminster Palace and the Daleks. I am so excited about it! Tune in next time as I explore more Doctor Who Filming Locations in London like Trafalgar Square! Credits: Dedicated to my family for always believing in me!
