In this video, Westin fishing backed Thom Hunt takes you through how to perfectly match EWG hooks (also known as Offset hooks or Texas hooks ) to perch baits to achieve the correct presentation. How to rig the Westin Shadteez, Westin Bullteez, Westin Crecraw & Ringcraw, Westin Bloodteez etc using weedless hooks. The benefit of weedless hook allow you to fish in and around snaggy areas, or in and around the bottom of a lake, river or canal bed but avoid getting snagged and ultimately avoid losing too many lures! Thom describes the smallest baits he’d use on a N°4 hook and a small Cheb weight in ultralight fishing terms up to a maximum of 2 grams. All the way through to a 4/0 size hook with a heavier gauge wire for bigger fish or fishing around heavy cover where strength and durability is required. The most common hook size Thom uses for perch fishing is a 1/0 or 2/0 and this is an excellent size for perch lures ranging between 7-10cm. Using offset hooks is not really a good method for ‘wasping’ or targeting very small perch but is an excellent method for medium to large perch and Zander and pike in snags or weedy areas. A must watch for all you enthusiasts of the Texas rig, Carolina rig, punching, flipping, Cheb rig etc etc as EWG hooks are so useful in these fishing techniques.
