The easiest way to hold replacement catalyst in a handwarmer rebuild project is through the use of springs. The amount of catalyst that a handwarmer holds determines the amount of heat output. This relationship is limited by the spring size, and has led to the availability of bespoke springs for the Jon-e Giant that have a larger diameter than the standard springs. However, while preferable, the use of a specialized spring is not your only option to expand the potential heat output of a Jon-e Giant. If you have a Jon-e Giant in your handwarmer quiver, but none of the specialized springs, you may still be able to increase your heat output through the use of standard springs, as illustrated in this demonstration. Timeline: 00:00 Comparing the size of a Jon-e Giant to a standard Zippo, and discussing the Peackock 'Giant' handwarmer as a possible misnomer. 01:00 Comparing the catalyst heads 01:42 Comparing springs: 135F, 145F and 165F 04:18 Fit of a standard spring in Jon-e Giant catalyst head 05:30 Fitting, and recommended placement, of 2 standard springs into the catalyst head 07:50 Close up view and discussion of how 2 standard springs placement into the Jon-e Giant catalyst head 09:30 Discussion of standard springs as opposed to bespoke springs with respect to increasing heat output Items outlined in this demonstration can be found on our order form: https://bit.ly/3LhyjyA
