This little clip illustrates the tricky to articulate first part of making a boot cover, patterning the body. If you're working with a leg and base shoe rather than a boot that you can press flat at the top you'll need to use a tape measure to find the half measures at various points of the leg. Make sure not to have the foot pointed when doing this, keep it flexed in a natural standing position, with the leg perpendicular to the sole of the shoe. You'll notice I rocked the boot back and forth to get the middle of the toe and the middle of the heal. Don't forget to add a seam allowance before you cut!
