Nene Momosuzu plays Minecraft. Original stream: • 【Minecraft】🍑GO TO MESA(素材集め)🍑【桃鈴ねね/ ホロライブ】 Nene's channel: / @momosuzunene “You call that a fire!!?” I had spent the last thirty minutes painstakingly setting up kindle and tinder into a kind of pyramid and then striking flint over it, hoping that a spark would catch and set it aflame. At the first sign of smoke, Nene came over and kicked it, sending little sticks flying everywhere like so much dry spaghetti. I sat there, flint and steel in hand, frozen in place, staring a thousand yards past the barren ground where my kindle pyramid had been just a moment ago. There comes a time in every man’s life when they wonder what sin was so great that they can no longer distinguish their waking life from hell itself. I was very close to that point. “I’ll show you what real fire is!!!” Nene planted both feet on the ground, bent at the knees, tucked her elbows into her side, and clenched both fists. She shut her eyes tight. Then opened them wide. “Ora!!!” The air sizzled and popped. The temperature turned from a cool evening to a midsummer’s day in Arizona during a heatwave. I could practically hear the sun screaming in pain as it was ripped from its spot at the center of the solar system, contrary to all known laws of gravity, and pulled closer to the earth. “Uh, Ma’am? It’s getting kinda hot.” “You call this hot!!? I’ll show you what hot is!!! ORAAAAAaAAaAAAAa!!!” The tops of the pine trees all around us exploded into great gouts of flame, the pitch and tar within them boiling and bursting outwards in razor-edged slivers. “Uh, Ma’am? The forest is on fire.” “You call this a forest fire!!?” Nene took a deep breath, no doubt about to scream her loudest ‘ora’ yet. But then a bipedal bear wearing a park ranger hat came stumbling into the clearing, singed and nearly out of his wits. “Holy fuck!” it screamed calmly. “Uh, Ma’am? There’s a talking bear suffering from 3rd-degree burns.” “You call that a bear!!?” Nene broke a cruller donut in half and stuck one on either side of her head. “Gao!!!” she 'roared'. The bear and I shared a look. “Uh, Ma’am? Are you gonna do something about the general conflagration slowly closing in on us or are we just going to burn to death?” I asked. Nene put a thoughtful finger on her dimpled chin. She held the gesture for a long time. The bear had passed out from smoke inhalation. My eyebrows had burned away long ago. Maybe it was the lack of oxygen, but I found myself staring into her jade eyes, wondering what byzantine tunnels lie within, what unthought, unformed ideas gasp into life only to die on the infinite shores of her unbounded intelligence. What cetacean cogitation was now swimming in idle immensity through the depths of her infinite ken? I could only stare, drooling silently, hair burning on my head like the wick of a candle, and wonder. Then, finally, she spoke. “If we burn to death, that means we die, right?” “Yes, Ma’am.” “Hmm. If we are dead, then that means we can’t go to the mesa.” “Yes, Ma’am.” “And if we can’t do that, then we can’t find gold.” “That’s right, Ma’am.” “Well, I think we shouldn’t burn to death.” She snapped her fingers and all the fire went out instantly. Not even smoke remained. I looked over at the bear. He was gesturing with a crispy paw for me to come closer. I knelt down next to him, acting witness to his last words. “Only… YOU… can prevent… forest fires…” His head flopped onto the blackened ground, and he died. I stood up, a single tear drawing a line down my soot-covered face. “If only I could, Mr. Bear. If only I could.” TO BE CONTINUED PERSONAL PROMOTION DO NOT READ If you liked the nonsense above, check out the comedic, fantasy light novel I’m writing at: https://ko-fi.com/mapleleafpublicatio...
