The first generation of video game systems was new, different, exciting, and literally created the market for the home consoles we enjoy today. Driven by innovators like Ralph Baer, Nolan Bushnell, Al Alcorn and others, major electronics companies, toy companies, and even indoor pool manufacturers figured out how to make good systems and profit accordingly. The market would become oversaturated and eventually crash, but not before creating the foundation for what we know today. In today’s video, we review the first ever home console systems, including the Magnavox Odyssey, the Coleco Telstar, the Sears/Atari Home Pong, the Color TV Series, and a few handhelds, like the Merlin. We also discuss the various smaller systems that…you know, helped crash the industry (the first time). Enjoy! -- Like what you have to see?
