Highams Park Level Crossing, Greater London

Welcome to 2022! This was the first level crossing I filmed this year. Borough: London Borough of Waltham Forest Date filmed: 05/01/2022 Videos filmed between 10:51 and 11:30 Route: London Overground 'Weaver Line' Highams Park Station Location: Larkshall Road, Highams Park Trains featured: Lowering 1 (0:00): 2 Class 710s (London Overground) - 1:46 London Liverpool Street ➡ Chingford - Lowering 2 (Starts at 2:19): Class 710 (London Overground) - 3:43 Chingford ➡ London Liverpool Street - Lowering 3 (Starts at 4:11): 2 Class 710s (London Overground) - 5:56 London Liverpool Street ➡ Chingford - Lowering 4 (Starts at 6:38): Class 710 (London Overground) - 7:50 Chingford ➡ London Liverpool Street - Lowering 5 (Starts at 8:23): Class 710 (London Overground) - Arrives at 9:31 | Departs at 10:03 Chingford ➡ London Liverpool Street A busy level crossing found in the middle of Highams Park, a London suburb in the Borough of Waltham Forest near Walthamstow. A total of 5 separate lowerings are featured in this video of this level crossing, which has a total of 6 LED wigwags as well as two rather unique, very screechy-sounding alarms which are each really quite loud. At the time of filming, four brand new barriers, each made in 2021, had only recently been installed at this level crossing. A former signal box which overlooks this level crossing still remains, yet this has been done-up and preserved. This signal box was built in 1928, and saved from demolition in 2002, now leased to the local Signal Box association. It's one of the few that survive on this line to this day, although it is out of use. All lowerings feature London Overground's fairly new Class 710 Bombardier 'Aventura' trains which phased out much older units in recent years. These provide an every-15-minute service for each direction between Chingford and London Liverpool Street. The timetable here is very nicely-staggered and arranged, as there's rarely more than 6-8 minutes at most between lowerings of the barriers here (without delays), and the barriers don't usually remain lowered for more than one train at a time. Thanks for watching!
