GOODNIGHT MY LOVE, Mindy Carson, (Columbia #4-40789) 1956 Flipside: SINCE I MET YOU BABY – Here is another really great cover song from my music collection. Mindy Carson was born July 16, 1927 in the Bronx, New York. Mindy Carson got her first break in 1946 on the ‘Stairway To The Stars’ radio program which starred Paul Whiteman and Martha Tilton. In 1949, she had her own CBS radio series with announcer Don Pardo. That fall she starred in her NBC television variety show that featured violinist Florian Zabach and Earl Sheldon’s orchestra. At RCA Victor, accompanied by the Henri Rene orchestra, she recorded a happy novelty tune “CANDY AND CAKE” with a ballad, “MY FOOLISH HEART” on the flipside side, but it was the ballad that became the bigger song. At Columbia Records in 1952, A&R chief Mitch Miller paired her with Guy Mitchell for a duet on “CAUSE I LOVE YOU THAT’S-A-WHY” and “TELL US WHERE THE GOOD TIMES ARE”. In 1955, Mindy Carson recorded her biggest hit “WAKE THE TOWN AND TELL THE PEOLPLE” (Columbia #40537). It charted nationally on Billboard in August 1955, for 12 weeks and reached #13. Her cover of the flipside of “GOODNIGHT MY LOVE”, Ivory Joe Hunter’s hit “SINCE I MET YOU BABY” (Columbia #40789) charted in December 1956 for 12 weeks and reached #34. Mindy’s third biggest hit was a cover version of “MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS” charted in January 1956 for 13 weeks and reached #53. She appeared on Broadway in the short-lived 1958 boxing musical ‘The Body Beautiful’ by Sheldon Harnick & Jerry Bock. “GOODNIGHT MY LOVE” was the late Jesse Belvin’s signature song. It baffles me to this day that Jesse Belvin was the first to record it (Modern #1005) 1956 and his excellent version never charted on Billboard, go figure! Many well-known artists have covered the song: Ben E. King, Dee Dee Sharp, Ray Peterson, The Fleetwoods, Paul Anka, The Honeys, Gloria Estefan, Tavares (super version), Aaron Neville, Harry Connick Jr., Barry White, Bobby Vinton and just too many more to list here! As of this upload of “GOODNIGHT MY LOVE” Mindy Carson is still with us at the age of 95 years old, God bless her! Enjoy this really great cover version of “GOODNIGHT MY LOVE” by Mindy Carson, with Ray Conniff & his orchestra/with chorus.
